When there's a bit of a lull in terms of Honda-related automotive news, at least Honda now has a Jet we can talk about to fill in the gaps from time to time. The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) show is taking place this week in Orlando, and Honda has chosen this venue to release pricing information on their jet. The pricing starts at $3.65 Million but if you want the paint and fabric protection package and laser etched glass, be ready to cough up another $495,000 or so. Additionally, until a few details can be worked out, Lo-Jack is not going to be initially offered.
Kidding aside, Honda filed for FAA type certification on October 11, 2006 and expects to receive both type and production certifications within 3 to 4 years.
The HondaJet sets itself apart from competitors by offering the fastest and most fuel efficient jet in its class while offering an interior that sets new standards in terms of comfort and space.
The HondaJet's cruise speed is a class-topping 420knots, while it features a range of 1180 nautical miles and a sinus popping 43000-foot service ceiling. The real trump card is that the HondaJet's kerosene consumption rate is a full 30-35% lower than competing jets.
Production begins in 2010 and Honda expects to eventually build around 70 HondaJets per year at a yet-to-be-disclosed production facility in the US. The HondaJet will initially be offered with two seating configurations - the standard configuration offers forward facing seating for 5 passengers and a pair of pilots. In "air taxi" configuration, there are 6 forward facing seats in addition to the thrones for the pilot and co-pilot.
