Kleinubing Podiums RealTime Acura
Team Places 5 Touring Cars in Top 11 at Sebring
March 20, 2006 – Sebring, Florida
Pierre Kleinubing’s third place in the season-opening round of the SCCA SPEED Touring Car Championship was backed by all four of his Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles teammates from RealTime Racing finishing in the top 11.
Kleinubing raced the #42 TSX and was one of three RealTime Acura drivers who exceeded the existing Sebring International Raceway Touring Car lap record during the 17-lap event on the fabled 3.7-mile circuit. He finished 8.668 seconds out of first.
Defending series champion Peter Cunningham, who qualified his #1 plated TSX in sixth place, fell back five positions on the opening lap, then worked his way back to fifth, less than a half second out of fourth.
Nick Esayian arrived in Florida with more than racing on his mind; his wife, Carrie, was due to deliver their second child on Saturday. Perhaps he was in a hurry to get the week over with, but Nick scorched the time sheets in qualifying with the eighth quickest time, his personal best starting position by five spots.
Then in the race, the third-year RealTime pilot drove his #34 RSX to a career-high seventh before hightailing it to the airport to head back home to Southern California.
When he arrived, he found Carrie standing at the door with bags packed. Timing is everything. Troy Gordon Esayian arrived at 2:01am Saturday, March 18. Mom and baby are doing great.
2005 Rookie-of-the-Year Brandon Davis started 10th and finished ninth in his #20 TSX. Eric Curran qualified his #43 RSX seventh quickest, climbed to a strong fourth early in the race, then experienced a front-end alignment issue and finished 11th.
“We had a pretty good day and we found a couple of areas where we can improve,” said RealTime Racing Crew Chief Michael Busalacchi.
“Pierre had a solid run to his podium finish and Peter did an excellent job of recovering after the first lap traffic jam to finish fifth. It was good to see the big smile on Nick’s face after a great drive resulted in his best finish ever. Brandon had a steady run to finish ninth and Eric soldiered on, even with his problem, to come in 11th.”
The Sebring race was televised on a second-day-delay basis and will re-air Monday, March 27 on the Speed Channel.
The second SPEED Touring Car race of the season will be Sunday, April 2 as part of the Indy Racing League’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg weekend.
RealTime Racing is sponsored by Acura and Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, buyBrakes.com, Sparco, Hawk Performance, Brembo, BOSCH, A-SPEC, Memphis Car Audio, Valley Graphix, Total Auto Body, Enkei, PACT and A-YES.
