my car battery was leaking acid. Could this have caused the short circuit ? the car had difficulty starting several times. I assumed it was the alternator . when it died one day, I call the tow truck to get it fix. The tow truck operator showed me the fuse was the culprit by connecting copper wire between two screws by passing the fuse itself. I was able to turn the key in ignition.
I replaced the fuse and the battery.
The fuse's job is to disintegrate when a high current passes through it. This protects the rest of your electrics, but you'll need to replace the fuse. Sounds like this is what happened- your fuse blew. And yeah, a leaking battery is bad.
