we're working in the background on a next generation platform for the ToV. I'm not sure of a timetable of when (or even if) it will be introduced, but it natively supports RSS. We've poured a lot of work into the present architecture and it's served us pretty well and it deals nicely with our peak traffic loads on fairly modest hardware, so it's nice and efficient. It just has a few features missing that we've been wanting for a while (such as RSS, photo gallery integration, a decent search function, and the categorization is weak).
So the next generation platform has a lot of bells and whistles right out of the box, but it will still need to be tweaked to do what we want. And we really don't know how efficient the system is and how well it will scale to serving hundreds of thousands of daily page views.
