The Camry looks even more boring and incognito than I expected (but not as distinctively ugly as the current version), while the new Malibu loses the attractive lines of the current model to become something that looks like a hybrid cross between the last-generation Mustang, the current Taurus and the current Legacy.
That Camry is the current Camry in Taiwan, it's nothing new.

It has been out for a while in Taiwan, I believe almost as the same time the current gen Camry here has been out for us.

Indeed, they must simlpy be protecting themselves against chinese makers and the likes.
The usual thing for such new players is coming to the market while imitating a previous-gen design of a very well stablished player.
Toyota is simply being cautious in light of the new developments in the industry.
The source site itself has updated to admit the Camry photo is of a version of the current design from another market.
As for the Malibu, yikes. Hideous would be the best word to describe it and I really can't imagine GM bringing such an awkward, busy, ugly mess to market. In other words, it's not the next Malibu.
